Healing on your phone gets easier, plus quick targeting, a battery saver and faster loading

Playing Wrath of the Lich King on a phone has been possible on Lasthavens for a while, but healing was the hard part: you had to target a friend, then tap the spell, and hope you hit the right frame with your thumb. This update fixes that, and adds a few things players asked for in our Discord. Thanks to House for the controller and touch ideas that started it.

Drag a heal onto anyone

Healing now works the way it should on a touch screen:

  1. Press and hold a healing spell on your action arc.
  2. Slide your thumb toward the party frame, your own frame, or a friendly player in the world. A cursor follows just above your thumb so you can see where it’s pointing.
  3. Let go to cast the heal on whoever is under the cursor.

Let go anywhere else and nothing is cast, so a slipped thumb never wastes mana. It works for any helpful spell, not just heals: buffs, cleanses and shields all go where you drag them. Ground spells like Blizzard and Consecration still aim the same way as before, by dragging them into the world.

Hold the main button for quick targeting

The big main button already does what the moment calls for: target an enemy, attack, loot or talk. Now you can hold it to open a small fan of extra actions:

  • Target Nearest Friend
  • Target Self
  • Pet Attack (when you have a pet)
  • Clear Target

Slide onto one and let go. Let go anywhere else to close the fan.

A battery saver: 30 frames per second

Phones and tablets now run the game at 30 frames per second by default. WotLK plays perfectly well at 30, and your phone stays cooler and lasts noticeably longer. If you’d rather have it smoother, open the Game Menu, choose Interface, then Touch at the bottom of the list, and move the Frame rate limit slider anywhere from 20 to 60.

On a computer you can set your own limit too: type /console maxFPS 60 in chat (any number works) and it’s remembered.

Settings that stay put

Your settings now stay saved between visits on every device, including graphics, sound and the Remember Account Name box on the login screen, which is visible again. Phones also start with lower texture quality to save memory. Raise it in the Video options if your phone handles it, and that choice is remembered too.

Faster first load

The first visit downloads the game’s data as you need it. That download is now several times faster, which you’ll notice most at character select and the first time you enter the world. After that, the game loads from your browser’s cache.

Try it

Open lasthavens.com/play on your phone, or grab the Android app. If you’d rather use buttons, the game now works with a controller too: see playing WotLK with a controller. Found a bug? Post it in #bug-reports on our Discord, where we’re fixing them fast.
