The Lasthavens app for Android, how to download it, install it and play
Lasthavens now has an Android app. It is the same Wrath of the Lich King realm you play in the browser, with the same account and the same characters, in an app of its own on your home screen. It opens straight into the game, full screen and sideways, with no address bar and no tabs. This post covers where to get it, how to install it, what it can and can’t do, and what to try if something goes wrong.
What the app is
The app is small. It does not contain the game: it opens lasthavens.com/play in Chrome, the browser already on your phone, without Chrome’s bars. That has a few consequences worth knowing:
- It updates by itself. Every fix to the realm or the client reaches the app the moment it reaches the website. You download the app once.
- It plays exactly like the website. Same touch controls, same graphics, same login. If it works in Chrome on your phone, it works in the app.
- It needs Chrome. Chrome comes with almost every Android phone. If it’s missing, install it from the Play Store first.
- It asks for no permissions. No contacts, no storage, no location, no notifications. It only ever opens lasthavens.com.
Android also lets you install Lasthavens from inside Chrome, with Add to Home screen or Install app in Chrome’s menu, and that works just as well. The app is for anyone who would rather tap a download link.
Download and install
- On your phone, open lasthavens.com/lasthavens.apk. Chrome downloads the file, which is a few megabytes.
- Tap Open when the download finishes, or find the file under Downloads.
- Android asks whether Chrome may install unknown apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then go back.
- Tap Install.
- If Play Protect warns about an app it doesn’t recognise, tap More details, then Install anyway. The app isn’t on Google Play, so Google has never scanned it. That is the only reason for the warning.
- Open Lasthavens from your home screen, turn the phone sideways, and log in.
You can turn Allow from this source off again afterwards. The app keeps working.
Why it isn’t on Google Play
World of Warcraft is Blizzard’s game, so a listing on Google Play would be taken down, and the app is only offered from this website. Our post on WoW on mobile warns against “WoW mobile” APKs from random websites. That advice still stands. Only install the Lasthavens app from lasthavens.com, the same place you play.
Your first visit
The first time you open the app it downloads about 50 MB to reach the login screen, and more as you travel the world. Use Wi-Fi for that first session if you can. After that, what you have already seen comes from the phone’s cache.
Don’t have an account yet? Tap Create Account on the login screen, pick a name and a password, and you’re in. The account works everywhere: in the app, in any browser, and on a computer.
Playing with touch
The controls are the game’s own buttons, sized for a thumb:
- Move with the stick in the bottom left. It centres itself wherever your thumb lands.
- Fight with the action arc in the bottom right. It opens when you target an enemy and folds away when you’re exploring. Swipe across it to turn the page.
- Tap to click, hold for a right click (to loot, sell or use items), drag across the world to turn the camera, and pinch to zoom.
- Chat with the chat button in the bottom left. The keyboard opens, and what you type shows just above it. For quick phrases and emotes, tap the speech bubble at the top of the screen.
- Android’s back button works like Escape: it closes windows and cancels casts.
Putting spells on the arc
Open your spellbook and the arc opens on every page, with its empty slots showing. Then:
- Drag a spell from the spellbook onto a slot.
- Drag a button off the arc to remove it, or onto another slot to move it there.
- Close the spellbook when you’re done. Anything you were still carrying is dropped.
Interface Options › Touch has the button and stick sizes, how long a hold takes, the camera speed, and a left-handed layout.
Updates
There is nothing to update. The app always loads the current version of the game from lasthavens.com. A new APK only comes out if the app’s own icon or name changes, and the old one keeps working until then.
If something goes wrong
- “Lasthavens can’t be reached.” Your phone has no connection, or the realm is restarting. Tap Try again, or wait. The app comes back by itself once the connection does.
- The game won’t install. Make sure you allowed Chrome (or your file manager) to install unknown apps, and that the download finished.
- You see an address bar at the top. Update Chrome from the Play Store, then reopen the app.
- The app closes or reloads in busy places. Phones with little memory can struggle in cities. Close other apps, and lower the graphics in the game’s Video options.
- More help: see the game won’t load, or ask in our Discord.
iPhone and iPad
Apple doesn’t allow apps like this outside the App Store, so there is no iPhone app. You get the same thing from Safari: open lasthavens.com/play, tap the share button, then Add to Home Screen. Lasthavens then opens full screen from its own icon, just like the Android app. See playing on iPhone and iPad for the details.
