Play Wrath of the Lich King with an Xbox or PlayStation controller, in your browser and on Android
You can now play Lasthavens with a controller. Plug an Xbox or PlayStation pad into your computer, or pair a Bluetooth controller with your phone, open lasthavens.com/play, and the game picks it up. There’s nothing to install and no setting to turn on. This post covers which controllers work, what every button does, and a few tips for playing Wrath of the Lich King from the couch.
Which controllers work
Any controller your browser recognises as a gamepad works. That covers most of them:
- Xbox controllers (Xbox One, Series X|S, Xbox 360) over USB or Bluetooth.
- PlayStation controllers (DualShock 4, DualSense) over USB or Bluetooth.
- Phone controllers that clip around your phone, like the Backbone, Razer Kishi or GameSir X-series, on Android.
- Generic Bluetooth pads that your phone or computer lists as a game controller.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all support controllers, and so does the Lasthavens Android app. If your controller does nothing, press a button once with the game open: browsers only connect a controller after it has been used on the page.
What the buttons do
The layout follows the game’s default keys, so your key bindings and addons work exactly as they would with a keyboard:
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Left stick | Move forward and back, strafe left and right |
| Right stick | Turn your character |
| A (Cross) | Jump |
| X, Y, B (Square, Triangle, Circle) | Action buttons 1, 2 and 3 |
| RB, RT, LT (R1, R2, L2) | Action buttons 4, 5 and 6 |
| D-pad | Action buttons 7, 8, 9 and 0 |
| LB (L1) | Target the next enemy |
| Start (Options) | Game menu |
| Back (Share) | Open your bags |
| Left stick click | Auto-run |
Put the spells you use most on your first six action buttons and they’re all under your thumbs and triggers. Healers can keep their main heal on X and a quick heal on a trigger.
Tips for controller play
- Menus still want a tap or the mouse. Vendors, quest rewards, loot windows and the talent tree are easiest with a quick tap on a phone screen or a click on a computer. The controller covers moving and fighting.
- Use LB to pick targets. Pressing it again cycles to the next enemy, the same as Tab on a keyboard.
- On phones, the touch controls stay on. You can mix both: steer with the controller and tap the screen for anything else.
- Rebind if you like. Because the controller presses the game’s own keys, changing a key binding in the game menu changes what that button does too.
Playing on a phone with a controller
A phone and a clip-on controller make a surprisingly good handheld for WotLK. Turn the phone sideways, open the app or the website, and log in. The game runs at 30 frames per second on phones by default to save battery. If your phone stays cool and you want it smoother, raise the limit in Game Menu, then Interface, then Touch at the bottom of the list.
